The policy change we have all been waiting for has finally been announced by the government. This change will help families stay together and assist with filling gaps in sectors facing skill and labour shortages.
The current policy restricts most partners to people here in New Zealand on an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), requiring them to work only for Accredited Employers and earning at least $29.66 per hour. This is about to change!
From 2nd December 2024 open work rights will be available to most* partners applying for a partnership-based work visa. Those who have specific work conditions on their work visa can apply for a variation to switch to open work rights.
